Stop replacing plants. Start keeping them.

We grow hardy, weather-tested plants a few miles from where you'll plant them — and tell you honestly which ones will survive your windowsill, your soil and your winter.

The Highland Plant House — grown at home, rooted in the Highlands
What we're known for
Peat-free growing Grown on site Honest labelling Aftercare, not upselling

A garden centre sells you a plant. We sell you the next ten years of it.

Most plants die because they were never suited to where they ended up. They were grown warm, shipped far, and sold on looks to someone who was never told what the label meant.

We propagate and grow a large share of our stock here, so it is already acclimatised to Highland light and Highland weather before it reaches you. What we can't raise ourselves, we buy from growers we have actually visited.

How buying from us works

Come with a problem, not a shopping list.

The best thing we sell is ten minutes of conversation before you spend anything.

1

Tell us where it's going

Which way the window faces, how close the radiator is, whether the bed is boggy or free-draining. Photos on your phone are perfect.

2

We narrow it down honestly

Often that means talking you out of the plant you came in for. We would rather sell you one that lasts than three that don't.

3

You leave with everything it needs

The right pot, the right compost, and a label that tells the truth about watering and light.

Grown here, not trucked here.

The difference shows up in the second year, when the plants that were forced under heat lamps have given up and the ones raised outdoors are still going.

The usual route
  • Forced under glass, hundreds of miles south
  • Sold on flower, not on constitution
  • Optimistic "easy care" labelling
  • Nobody to ask when it starts to fail
At the plant house
  • Propagated and grown on site, outdoors
  • Chosen for Highland light and Highland weather
  • Labels that state the real requirements
  • Bring it back and we'll diagnose it, free
